Exemption from Exams

The following information is an excerpt Board Policy IDAF: Exemption Policy. View the full exemption policy here.

A student may be exempt from the final exam in any course by meeting the following criteria:

  • Achieve an end-of-course average of "A" or
  • Meet course benchmark proficiency requirements listed in the tables below.

Students may choose to take the exam if they have met exemption requirements. Exams may be comprehensive in nature and will count as 5% of the final grade.

Students only need to meet one of the options for each subject area listed below to be eligible for exemption in that course or have an end-of-course "A" average.

Students who exceed eight (8) full-day absences during the first semester, whether excused or unexcused, will not be eligible to exempt first semester exams. Students who exceed seventeen (17) full-day absences, whether excused or unexcused, will not be eligible to exempt spring exams. In order to be considered as present for a full-day, a student must attend 63% of the instructional day. Special consideration will be given to students with a physician-documented chronic illness or those requiring extended hospital care.
