OHS Student Applies Construction Skills to Improve Archery Team Storage

Callie Bennett
Oxford, Mississippi — Oxford High School senior Callie Bennett recently combined her experience on the OHS Archery Team with skills learned in the Career and Technical Education Construction program to create a new storage system for the team’s equipment.
Before enrolling in the construction class, Callie designed plans for the project and shared the idea with the OHS construction teacher Mr. Robinson. The production began last year with the help of a former student before Callie completed the final phase this spring as part of the construction class.
Throughout the process, Callie learned how to operate the CNC (computer numerical control) machine while gaining additional experience in project planning and construction techniques. The completed storage system now provides the archery team with a new organized space to store bows and equipment.
Mr. Robinson and the whole construction program helped me bring my ideas to life,
Callie said. My plan has been to be an architect for my whole high school career, and being in construction helped me see the other side of things—the actual building.
Oxford High School is proud of the creativity and collaboration demonstrated through projects like this and the opportunities students have to apply their skills in meaningful ways across campus.
