A. Parent and Community Involvement Mission
To support the growth of our students, a positive partnership must exist between our parents and Oxford High School. Therefore, we promote positive communication between the school and our student’s homes. The school provides various opportunities for parents to be involved in activities supporting our schools and students. We believe teachers are responsible for providing the needed framework for parents to nurture their children’s instruction at home. At the high school level, this framework of support includes a gradual release of responsibility to the student with the parent as the support. Our goal is to provide an atmosphere where parents can express their views and assist in problem-solving. We want parents to understand that we view them as joint advocates in their children’s educational journey.
B. Parent Involvement Planning
Oxford High School will:
- Convene two annual parent/community meetings at a convenient time each year.
- The administrators, counselors, and faculty members will conduct a meeting in August and in January of each year to educate parents and students as they begin a new semester. These sessions will include topics such as State course and test requirements for graduation, options for meeting State testing requirements, information about graduation regalia, information for planning the student’s schedule, and information about special academic programs, arts programs, and athletic teams. These sessions will be filmed and sent to parents through newsletters, etc. or will be livestreamed. The success of these educational sessions will be assessed by our parent and student surveys administered each fall and spring semester. It will also be assessed by the informed scheduling for the next year that takes place in February.
- Hold parent/community meetings in which we will provide information regarding the school curriculum, assessments, student progress, and the proficiency requirements students are expected to meet in order to progress from grade to grade. Through regular meetings and yearly surveys, parents will have an opportunity to make suggestions and to participate in decisions relating to the education of their children. We will also send information through monthly newsletters and emails from administrators, counselors, and individual teachers.
C. School-Parent Compact: Shared Responsibilities for Academic Achievement
- Oxford High School will support our children’s learning in the following ways:
- Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables students to meet Mississippi’s academic achievement standards as follows:

- How will we know when students have learned?
- How will we respond when some students don’t learn?
- How can we enrich the learning for students who are already proficient? Through PLCs, we will plan collaboratively ensuring a guaranteed and viable curriculum for ALL students, administer common formative assessments at least four times a year and each PLC will evaluate data from common formative assessments.
